The Millers,
The family behind Windmill German Shepherds and Cardigan Welsh Corgis
We are Heather, Ashley, and Teagan Miller! Our kennel name came from incorporating our last name and with where we lived at the time we started breeding, Wyoming, where it was very windy, thus we became Windmill German Shepherds. We got our first German Shepherd in 1991 and have been hooked since. Our dogs are a part of our family first, then show dogs. We first started showing dogs when we lived in Wyoming and became a part of the dog show community here in Texas after our big move in 2001. Our first champion was CH Happy Mar Nash Bridges of Nordlicht, who was our foundation stud dog. We have bred several champions and showed most of our dogs ourselves. Our top winning dog so far, CH Windmill's Synchronicity, was in the Top Ten GSDs in 2006 and won BBE GSD at Eukanuba 2006.
Along with breeding quality dogs and having multiple champions, we have also had multiple Best Bred By in Show winners and Bred By Herding group winners. We plan on continuing having Bred By winners for years to come.
Our three oldest children, Ashley, Holly, and Logan, all showed in Junior Showmanship, and have all had a great deal of success in the sport, including winning multiple Best Junior Handlers. We welcomed our newest Junior, Teagan, on March 24, 2011! We know that she will grow up to be just as talented as her siblings and is already 'walking' dogs at the shows!
Ashley and Logan both won the Robert Hamilton Award (top GSD junior according to the GSDCA) multiple
times and Ashley won Best Junior Handler at the 2002 and 2008 GSDCA Nationals. Logan was the #1 GSD junior in 2010 and 2011 along with being a top herding dog junior. Holly showed an Australian Shepherd in Juniors and was the #1 Australian Shepherd Junior handler in 2008 and was also a top herding dog junior handler. Holly showed in Juniors at the 2009 Westminster Kennel Club. While they have all ended their Juniors careers it will always be an important part of Windmill past.
As for Cardigans, we actually got involved in them due to Pembrokes. Ashley was given a Pembroke at 10 in 2001 to show in Juniors and over the next 14 years she owned 3 pembrokes (Cleo, Jackie, and Cowboy). After college and losing her last Pembroke, Ashley got Lani and the rest was history.
Today most of our dogs are handled by Ashley, who has grand plans for our kennel and its future.
